I was studying in Brisbane and was looking forward to this new world of being more independent but felt like something was amiss. I asked God whether he could connect with me in some way and show me how he could actively move in my life. The next morning in the mail box was pamphlet from the local Uniting Church extending an invitation to their Alpha program. One could dismiss the proximity between that night’s prayer and the pamphlet, but I had a strong feeling it was something I shouldn’t ignore – it was too much of a coincidence. The congregation genuinely welcomed me, and the Alpha course gave me a valuable basic framework for thinking about Jesus and a daily approach to interaction which I’d never experienced. I firmly believe God’s hand has always been present guiding my faith journey.
