We do what we can

One of the people who impacted me as a Christian is a lady in our church who has cerebral palsy. She is an inspiration to me, and others who know what she is capable of doing despite her severe physical limitations. One night I listened to a sermon she had written on her computer on the theme “When we do what we can, God will do what we can’t”. She used the illustration of the feeding of the thousands. The disciples did what they could and gathered five loaves and two fish, and obeyed Jesus by beginning to distribute them to the crowds. Jesus did what they couldn’t and a miracle was performed. “When we do what we can, God will do what we can’t.” I’ve never forgotten those words or the lady who used them. At times when I begin to worry about the problems in our church and in the world, those words come back to me. God has planted them in my heart.
